Workshop: Semantic 3D (Room 4.1 – CEUE)
Jakub Flotyński, Leslie F. Sikos, Martin Fischbach, Johannes Behr and Patrick Bourdot
This workshop will provide insight into the use of the semantic web in 3D visualization and virtual and augmented reality. The following topics will be addressed: ontologies for 3D representation, annotation and retrieval (e.g., X3D-compliant); service-oriented methods and tools for on-demand, adaptive, secure and scalable data visualization and 3D content generation; ontologies for multimodal interaction in VR/AR as well as explorable behavior-rich VR/AR applications. The works will be considered in the context of building pervasive 3D/VR/AR web-based systems using different semantic formats (e.g., RDF, RDFS and OWL), 3D formats (e.g., X3DOM) and browsers. Finally, common fields of interest and possibilities of future collaboration will be identified and discussed.

Tutorial: Web3D Quickstart
(Room 4.1 – CEUE)
Nicholas Polys, Timo Sturm and Holger Seelig
This tutorial will cover the wide range of methods and patterns used to develop interactive 3D applications based on royalty-free and open ISO-IEC standards, enabling Virtual and Mixed Reality content that integrate with and publish to the WWW ecosystem including WebVR. The tutorial will explore approaches, tool chains, and applications for building X3D objects and scenes. A familiarity with markup languages and JavaScript is beneficial, but not required.
