PROGRAM – FRIDAY 22 JUNE 2018

9:00 – 10:30
Web3D Meeting: X3D Futures: Adoption of HTML5 & VR/AR on the Web
(Auditorium C – CEUE)
Anita Havele and Don Brutzmann
This workshop will feature presentations and discussion on maintaining X3D as the leading standards based format for 3D visualizationa and interchange. Two open source implementations are successfully implementing X3D in the web browser using Javascript,WebGL, and HTML5. X3D is also being used as a basis for virtual, augmented, and mixed reality applications. X3D standards development continues with submission of H-Anim V2 to ISO as a Draft International Standard and development of X3D V4 to support the latest web and rendering technology. Development of the X3D Unified Object Model enables consistent implementation across X3D encodings, execution environments, and programming languages. The Web3D Consortium seeks community support for continued standards development, efforts to increase adoption, and for the activities of our domain specific working groups and liasons.

9:00 – 9:45
Tutorial: Physically-based Rendering Quickstart (Room 4.13 – CEUE)
Timo Sturm
Physically-based rendering (PBR) refers to the concept of using realistic shading/lighting models along with measured surface values to accurately represent real-world materials. PBR is more of a concept than a strict set of rules, and as such, the exact implementations of PBR systems tend to vary, although they share many common points. The tutorial will explain what Physically-based Rendering is, what are the main concepts behind, what are the differences to previous rendering techniques and how can we use it today.

9:45 – 10:30
Tutorial: Modeling and rendering architectural spaces with SketchUp
(Room 4.13 – CEUE)
Dominik Strugała
The tutorial will explain how to model and render complex architectural spaces with Google SketchUp. The goal of this tutorial is, starting from the basics of creating shapes and textures, to teach about plugins and useful commands extending this software to the point of constructing parametrical architecture with ease. Basic knowledge of the main concepts of 3D visualization and modeling is beneficial, but not strictly required.

ABOUT THE WEB3D CONSORTIUM
The Web3D Consortium is a member-funded industry consortium committed to the creation and deployment of open, royalty-free standards that enable the communication of real-time 3D across applications, networks, and XML web services. The Consortium works closely with the ISO, MPEG and W3C standardization bodies to maximize market opportunities for its membership. Visit us at web3d.org.
